Where Our Alumni Work

Students with degrees from Penn State’s Graduate Program in Acoustics are always in high demand for jobs from a wide variety of research, industrial, and consulting employers. Every semester, the program receives far more job posting announcements than we have students to fill them. Most students receive multiple interviews and multiple job offers.

Students who earn master’s degrees, along with many Ph.D. graduates, find employment in industry — with a wide range of companies and a variety of types of jobs. Some students secure jobs in audio related fields, others work for consulting firms, and some work for government or industrial laboratories. A few of the companies that have hired recent graduates include:

  • BOSE
  • BOEING
  • Apple
  • Motorola
  • NASA
  • General Dynamics
  • Department of Transportation
  • Starkey
  • ARL
  • Raytheon Missile Systems

  • Southwest Research
  • Wyle laboratories
  • JMS Acoustics
  • US Army Corps of Engineers
  • Meyer Sound
  • BBN Technologies
  • Harman
  • Exelon
  • AdBm
  • SPIRENT Communications

Several of our Ph.D. graduates have secured faculty positions at other colleges and universities, where they teach acoustics (along with physics and/or engineering) and conduct research with their own undergraduate and graduate students. Some of the schools where our graduates have secured faculty positions include:

  • Brigham Young University
  • The University of Texas
