Michael J. Daley

Acoustics Student

I am a Ph.D. student in the Graduate Program in Acoustics at Penn State. My goal is to apply the knowledge gained through my education to musical instrument design. Thus far I have designed a new travel guitar which I plan to market in kit form in the future. I am also building a standard acoustic guitar based on the Martin D-18.

In addition to building musical instruments, I perform regularly as a guitarist in a pair of local musical acts. I also enjoy designing and building home audio loudspeakers.

Recently I had the opportunity to measure the modal characteristics of a pair of guitars. To see animations of these modes, click here. These files are rather large so they will take a while to download over a modem.
