Jin Liu earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Precision Instrumentation at Sichuan University in China. She joined the noise and vibration lab at Tennessee Technological University in 1998 and worked on microphone calibration by the reciprocity method.

In the summer of 2000, after she received her Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tennessee Tech, she moved to Penn State and joined the thermoacoustics group in 2001. She is now working on characterization of porous material subject to oscillatory flow to characterize stack and regenerator materials used in thermoacoustic refrigerators and engines.
