Simowitz Award and Citation
The Simowitz Award was established as a memorial by the family of Kenneth T. Simowitz, a student
in the Acoustics Program. In the spring of each year, nominations are submitted by faculty and
students to the Program Awards Committee. One award is presented at the Awards Ceremony held each
April and is given in recognition of superior work in one of the following areas: a written article
published in a refereed journal; other scholarly work such as a film, patent, editorial or creative work;
such other professional activity as may be approved by the Awards Committee. A more complete set of
eligibility requirements can be obtained from the Acoustics Program Office. The award consists of a
cash prize and a plaque or certificate.
The Simowitz Citation was established as a memorial by the family of Kenneth T. Simowitz, a student in
the Acoustics Program. As with the Simowitz Award, the Citation is presented in the spring of each year.
Nominations are submitted by faculty and students to the Program Awards Committee. More than one citation
can be presented each year at the Awards Ceremony held each April. The Citation is awarded to recognize
a special "honorable mention" or similar category for students whose work appears in written proceedings of
major conferences, who participate in special exhibits or poster sessions, who present "invited" papers at
technical meetings, or other such activity as may be approved by the Awards Committee. A more complete set
of eligibility requirements can be obtained from the Acoustics Program Office. The citation consists of a
cash prize and a certificate.
The Eugen J. Skudrzyk Memorial Award
This memorial was established in January 1991 to honor the memory of Dr. Eugen Skudrzyk, a member of the
Acoustics Program faculty. The Award is to recognize "outstanding achievements by graduate students at
Penn State who conduct research and publish on the relationship between complex vibratory structures and
the surrounding acoustic environment." One award is presented yearly in April at the Awards Ceremony.
