Password Policy for all Accounts:

Passwords will expire every 90 days accourding to PSU policy.

Passwords must be 8 characters or longer. Characters can be grouped into 4 classes: upper case, lower case, numbers and symbols. Passwords must contain at least 3 cases.

NT and Unix account passwords must be unique. Do not recycle passwords from one account to another, especially if it is from an account from a compromised system.

Recomendations: Do not use whole words. Do not use foreign words. Do not use words that can be found in any dictionary, thesaurus or literary work. These words have all been compiled electronically and are easily cracked.

Other stratagies:

Chose a sentance with 8 or more words and use the first letters of each word.

Passwords will be periodically checked by the System Adminstrator for adherence to these rules. If they fail, you will be notified by email and the offending accounts will be disabled until the user corrects the situtation.
