Applied Science Building
Facilities
This is the main entrance to the
Applied Science Building which houses the Graduate Program in Acoustics. It is
located on the west side of the University Park campus in State College, Pennsylvania.
The
Acoustics Program classroom is the primary location for all classes taken by acoustics
students on campus. It is equipped with a video projection system capable of displaying
VHS, S-VHS, LaserDisc, and computer workstation graphics. An Internet connection for the
classroom computer allows for viewing of graphics from the acoustics workstations. A
well-equipped sound system is suitable for audio demonstrations and some experimentation.
The teaching lab is equipped with a number of PCs on a local network and on
the Internet. They are used for course work and lab class experiments, and are outfitted
with the latest software. Several PCs are also outfitted for data aquisition and analysis,
using a Hewlett-Packard multichannel PC interfaced analyzer.
The ASB building auditorium has a large seating capacity, used for many
conferences and seminars. It is equipped with a video projection system capable of
displaying VHS and computer workstation graphics and has an Internet connection. The setup
is configured such that the classroom audio and video equipment can be relocated here.

This is
the study lounge for acoustics graduate students. Lockers are provided for students and
once a student begins work on a research project, a desk is usually assigned, typically
within the specfic research group.
A small lounge within the student area allows for some relaxation. It is also the location
of the Acoustics Programs's main collection of the Journal of the Acoustical Society of
America (JASA) which is the wall of yellow books in the back.
